About Research And Development

The form of energy used by ClearIt is unique. It has never been employed for tattoo removal. We have created a prototype that is a modification of a commercially available instrument currently used for nonbiological applications. ClearIt is currently working with two highly qualified engineering groups to develop and evaluate a more advanced prototype for human trials.

Animal treatment protocols approved under IACUC regulations. Clearit is engaged with Charles River Laboratories for the housing, care and support in the administration of its treatment protocols.

Our Approach

Our approach calls for energy delivery directly to the site of the tattoo, not on the outer surface of the skin. We have married two different physical states of matter for producing the energy selectively to the tattoo. Several of our proprietary techniques are now well documented. We are currently focused on the integration of all of these features into a compact instrument.

Early work in vitro and in our proprietary skin model preparations demonstrated tattoo pigment decolorization. We also employed, ex-vivo, tattooed human skin with removal of multi-colored pigments. We are now applying our technology to tattooed living experimental animals. The figures below show an area of such a tattoo treated with our earliest, unoptimized prototype. The same clearing of the treated zone to the point of no residual visibility has also been achieved with other animals.

Histopathological examination confirmed the presence of abundant tattoo ink in the untreated zone adjacent to the cleared zone. A clear demarcation to an area essentially completely devoid of pigment in the treated area, corresponding to the white appearing skin in Figure 2. The overlying epithelium remained intact. The dermal collagen showed regrowth of vascularity.

The projected result is the removal of a tattoo to the point that it is rendered visibly imperceptible. Removal may well be achieved in a single treatment session at a relatively low cost. It also avoids the possible adverse effects from having additional freed tattoo ink particles gain access to the body’s lymphatic system and beyond. The ERASER™ System process functionally works as the reverse of the tattooing process – “untattooing”. A practicing physician or supervised technician essentially erases the tattoo from the skin. The ERASER™ System process is anticipated to be sufficiently exact to allow for alterations or corrections to tattoos, for example, misspellings.
